Climate change and international trade: Tracing the legal framwork, interface and challenges

Abstract
The two important issues - climate change and world trade cannot be
overemphasized. As much as international trade is very important to countries
survival, there is still the needs for global protection of the environmental.
There is a very strong link between climate change and world trade. For
instance, the effects of climate change on world trade have led to the
developments of new laws, policies, regulations and standards to addressed the
challenges pose by the phenomenon. The biggest cause of climate change, on the
other hand is trade. However, through green trade agreements, the trading of
emissions and other trade efforts, international trade is assisting in reducing
the effects of climate change. Therefore, it is important to pay further
attention to how climate change has impacted trade, how international trade
contributes to climate change, and how a balance might be reached between
reducing climate change and enhancing global trade. This article explores the
legal framework, interface and challenges between climate change and
international trade law.
